German Spellcheck Dictionary

Version 4.0.0 is out now. I have tested it thoroughly, and it works quite well. But it is now four and a half megabytes in size!
A dictionary like this (a mere word list without any rules) will invariably produce some false positives, because of the compound words that are very common in German. (In fact, this problem was one of the reasons why Hunspell was developed.) We will have to live with it.

Version 4.1.0 is ready for download.
This is a major update that contains several thousand new words from a widespread number of subjects (mostly from the German Wikipedia).
As I said, there will always be some "false positives", but I hope this version will cover 90% of the everyday vocabulary of most users.
It's large, of course. On my computer, PSPad uses 15-20 MB more RAM when the dictionary is loaded.

Version 4.2.0 is available for download. Although all the more recent versions can be expected to work pretty well, I definitely recommend an upgrade. This version contains about 1 MB more data than v. 4.0.2.
I've checked it over several weeks against the current Wikipedia "article of the day" and the famous news sites www.heise.de and www.tagesschau.de.
Though it has still a relative small number of words and hence some "false positives," it has already helped me to find a lot of typos other spell checkers ignore. The following screenshot shows how it performs on the Wikipedia list of common typos:
