crash on RDP client

#1 crash on RDP client

Posted by: gwinkless | Date: 2016-05-11 15:16 | IP: IP Logged

Logging into work machine (64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise, multi-headed) from home, connecting via RDP. If I minimize and then restore the RDP session it sometimes produces a crash, with the following in the Application Event Log:

Faulting application name: PSPad.exe, version: 4.6.1.2716, time stamp: 0x56f80950
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.23392, time stamp: 0x56eb30d1
Exception code: 0x0eedfade
Fault offset: 0x0000c54f
Faulting process id: 0x15b4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d1ab5d1472c9a9
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\PSPad editor\PSPad.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll
Report Id: 9cd22f01-178a-11e6-a339-f4b7e28e3312

PSPad is then closed.

Let me know if there's a way I can help debug.

Thanks!

Looks like (more debug) I can provoke it more often (although still not 100%) by switching tabs, then (without moving the cursor) minimizing and restoring the RDP session twice in reasonably quick succession.

While doing this, on one occasion I got "System Error. Code: 5. Access is denied." with the crash log below.

Hope this helps.

some overenthusiastic moderator:

It's a bug report forum. Don't ask for bug reports in the forum and then object when people provide useful information about the bugs. There is already a conversation about the bug here, if you don't have the information in the forum then people who have similar crashes won't find it as easy to seek out the bug in the forum to contribute, especially if they're searching google for text in the crash log.

It was hardly War And Peace, was it?

Well obviously that's in the bug report above.

I uploaded the log to what seemed to me to be an appropriate place (given that we already have this discussion in the Bug Report forum about this bug) and if you want to delete it, feel free, but that deletion simply means that Jan won't get the log, because a) I didn't save it, so I don't have it any more to email (so you just deleted the only copy) and b) frankly you just p***ed me right off to the point where I shan't bother next time. Well done.

If it were me, as a developer I'd be overjoyed that anyone took the time to provide debug information in whatever form I could get it; Jan's quite welcome to keep producing buggy software if he's happy to do that. If the bugs get too much for me then eventually I'll stop using it: I'm sure he won't care either way. The joys of free software means there's always another option for me and always another user for him.

Don't fear, Geoff.
1) Jan gets all forum posts by mail additionally, so nothing is lost here.
2) That message is an general text, nothing special to you.
3) You can still report bugs here, that is fine and very welcome.
Please use an descriptive Subject (nothing special to you)
Don't post the log here, rather send them to Jan by mail.
Post maybe only some information from the log 'header' and 'footer',
(like I let back) so others can see that something related is going on.
