lgk:
What you could do is to implement auto save ever 5 minutes for example. Surly a nice feature.

This feature is there years. What you need is activate it.
Program settings / Backup

But it won't work for unsaved files, will it?

No, it doesn't. All is about the work style. If you don't want to lose your work and you want to have file on the place you want, you need:
If I want to add new file to existing project, I open new file, save it where i want under name I want first.

PSPad can autosave new files, but users will complain, that file get ugly name and it is saved into wrong folder.

Yes, I agree. Work style is important. In rushing times like today it's just that you don't take / have enough time to order things perfectly.
For me, I often use "unsaved files" as working field which I mostly close (no need to delete ; -) but still could use parts of it within other projects. Just like a scratch book.

I can understand both sides. I think users would not complain, if the names were the same as before. For example New1.txt, New2.html, etc. What do you think?

Counter for New files are reset each time you start PSPad. I don't want to add functionality to search free number or highest number for new file counter.

There can be another problem with "Scratch" files - I will use New1 as scratch. i will close it, press new file, PSpad will create New1 and I close PSpad and it will replace existing New1 with "important" content.
It has no solution.

I am not against to add some functionality, but it must be conception solution. Not such what is good for one man needs. It must be usable for all who want to use it.

I think if you can solve it technical, it can be of good use.

I am not sure how many others would use this feature when it is there. I am sure some people will not mind having this feature.

And I am very certain that it can be implemented not that difficult. Worst case with a text file saving the number, but you already have the files in a temporary directory where you only need to count. Moreover, the real name in the background and the visible one don't need to be identically.

Technically can be solved near anything. Something easier, something harder way.
But what I need is general concept. I will think about it.

While I can't give you a technical concept in detail, I can give you the use cases with this feature:
- Computer crashes, restarts, etc. and you don't lose data
- You shut down the computer yourself and save / postpone time to save files later (or not)

Thank you for considering it.

Can the autosave be set up within a few minutes, and what if the failure occurs before it can save anything during this time?
Is this a specific recording time or real-time?
