No preference on format. whatever is easier for you.

I like the whole file diff in the text diff function.

Bug in text diff:

The file line numbers don't display when the diff is first displayed. as line scroll on they are numbered.

I'd say stick with .cab or switch to .zip as these both have support on all Operating Systems. Switching to .7z would force a lot of users to download additional software and could put some users off. Possibly not that much of a problem if it's only the betas you compress this way. I have winrar installed which extracts .7z files so not a problem here. You could use the 7-Zip self extractor format if needs be I suppose then there would be no need for the software to be installed.

I'm fine with both, but if I had to, I'd vote for 7Zip.
(I go with Triplex's comment about PSPad/7Zip vs. Notepad/Cab here, also 7Zip saves about 100kb on Filesize with this Beta ;) )

Ah, great Idea - since I'm one of those people who use a black background, I find the default dark blue for highlightet URLs a bit too dark on those rare occasions where I open files without an assigned colorscheme (there's no setting for this color, is there ?).

Oh, and thanks for PSPad, it's my favourite text editor !

Hello,

First of all, thanks a lot for this new version.

I have a strange behavior. When I open an x86 Assembly file, PSPad does not highlight the syntax while it works perfectly with other file type like ASP or Visual Basic.
The "Show / Hide syntax" button of the toolbar is not checked.
If I click on "Change document syntax highlight" PSPad recognize that the file is a x86 assembly file. Now if I click on Cancel button, PSPad highlight the syntax and the "Show / Hide syntax" button is checked.

Is it a bug?

Thanks and have a nice day.

There is limit to auto highlight file.
Program settings / Direct edit
change value of HLUpToSize variable e.g. to 1000000 (bytes)

#40 Search speed dramatically slow on 4.5

Posted by: Patrick | Date: 2006-01-19 14:16 | IP: IP Logged

Thank you very very much for your great job.
I've made many people happy around me thanks to you tool.
We mainly use it for LOG analysis (string search, highlight, ..) and working on files of about 30MB and use also sometimes for editing (XML, ...)

I've been using 4.3.3 (2085) and was quite happy.
The update to version 4.5.0 make me quite disappointed from a speed of view:
- opening a 30M test file is quick
- applying text color takes about 13-14 secondes on 4.3 and 4.5 release
- BUT search a string (with line list) takes less than 1 second with 4.3 and .... several minutes in 4.5 (we can see the cursor moving from top to down).

So, for me, the update is unfortunaly not interesting .

What such difference ???
