No, 'cus ZIP is standard on all Windows XP, and CAB is standard on all Windows.
For 7Zip you need an another tool to extract, what not all people have.

CAB works fine here, thanks (BTW: in the PC-Welt magazin 02/2006 is the last WinRAR for free) .

same here, dont need to make the people use a 3rd party tool, even free, moreover in something small enough like pspad you wont compress a lot more with 7z than with zip or cab smiling smiley

Bug found in tabbing:

Create a new file, press <tab>, type something. This is indented text.
Press enter, a new line will appear with one tab and waiting cursor.
Press <tab> again, the actual tab character isn't typed yet (because of "remove trailing spaces"?).
Type something. Instead of the second tab there will be 4 spaces.

End result:

<tab>something
<tab><space><space><space><space>something

This sometimes gives unwanted results with python files!

My settings: real tabs on, smart tabs off, tab width: 4, indent width: 2, trim trailing spaces: on, auto indent mode: on.

Please mail me for any other questions. I really like this editor!

7z would be better due to smaller size. Besides .cab is not handled correctly in downlad of default Opera installation. So +one vote for 7z smiling smiley

All of you use PSPad and you are proud of it, wondering how 99% people still use NotePad. Because they stick with what is standard and works.

Please give 7Zip a try (www.7-zip.org) or a nicer shell TUGZip (http://www.tugzip.com/) which is compatible with all other compression formats. Of course both are freewares.

In the compression world, 7Zip (freeware) and RAR (proprietary) are the best. That's it. If you don't need all the advanced features of the RAR format (mostly in used by heavy downloaders) then 7Zip is more than enough. I have tried 7Zip 2 months ago, now it becomes my default archiver. Even if my company paid me a Winzip license.

Except MS install, PSPad is the only software I know of which is distributed in CAB format. PSPad is a jewel in the freeware category, it would be nice if it could honor its 7Zip fellow as well. Even if CAB or 7Zip doesn't matter at the end, but the symbolic value is high.

I tested compressing in different formats:
Default Cab: 1,57 Mb
Zip : 2,10 Mb
Rar : 1,53 Mb
7z : 1,44 Mb

What's 0,13 Mb? It's just a few more sec of download and you don't need to download 7z.

I want to keep the file icon width.
The icon must be able to display several states together.
If you give me better symbols, no problem for me to change it.

R/O files are marked with the black band

Did you compare CAB and 7Zip compression ?
There isn't a markant difference.

CAB isn't licenced format, is supported by the operating system.
Extract.exe is part of all Widnows - you don't need any external application to uncompress it.

Size of a CAB archive is comparable to 7Zip or RAR

Jan, I have no problems with CAB, however I've seen complaints from people on other freeware sites that they couldn't open the CAB file, but it looks as though they didn't have compressers capable of handling CAB. You did point out to one vociferous complainer on one freeware site that you do provide the software for download to handle CAB.
So for me stick with CAB - if it aint broke don't fix it grinning smiley
