The size is not really the point. Try 7Zip on other types of data. The difference might be wider. There is no easy user interface to create a CAB (like right click CAB into ..., UnCAB to ...).

It is not a problem at all for me to receive PSPad update under CAB or any exotic format. Jan uses what he sees fit. I guess The PSPad cab is generated by a tool, if this tool can also add an installer on top of the cab then this would be the end of the story.

But because the decompression of the cab is manual so another format that can create an auto-extractible archive seems to be more convenient.

You can use any compression soft to unpack CAB with right click.
You are right, I am using tool to generate CAB. If somobody want, I can write tool to pack/unpack CAB with the right mouse click.

Can you tell what states should be displayed by the icons, may be i'll imagine smth acceptable =) And the preferred size also.

As for the archive format I prefer 7zip because of it's compression ratio and because it's widespread.

7z is not interesting in wide range. Jan can reach more people with CAB archives, its the best way. 7z is today a bordergroup software, maybe in one year is 7z redy for wide range use, but tody not! You can unpack the CAB archive, zip it with 7z and place it on your own webserver for all people with 7z packer!

Forgive me if this is not a bug, or if its already been reported:

It seems that if I set bookmarks at specific line numbers in my code, all are stored in the project and succesfully recalled at a later date, except bookmark 1. Bookmark 1 is unset on closing and reloaded PSPad...

Ye, combining those all is a tough question =( More over in such small area...
