Posted by: Get Free | Date: 2012-11-09 08:18 | IP: IP Logged
The tab switching order (when you press Ctrl+Tab) doesn't work in either "last used order" nor "last two files" order (depending on your configuration) if you select the tabs via any of the following methods:
- Clicking on the "Project Files" side panel
- Clicking on the "Files List" side panel
- Clicking on the "Search in Files Results" bottom window
It's like Ctrl+Tab only takes into consideration the tabs you've clicked on directly (on the "tab" GUI element) rather than the actual tabs that have been seleted through whatever method you used.
The fix for this should be straightforward. Instead of recording the tab switching order at the onclick event, it must be recorded at the "tab activation" procedure. That way, whatever method we use to select the active tab, it's always gonna be recorded in the "last used order" list.

This bug is still not fixed.
Any plans to fix it in the near future?

I don't understand how is File tabs order joined with rest of the PSPad GUI elements.
PSPad is MDI application, it means Ctrl+TAB works for child windows, not for the main window.
If you want to switch outside, use Alt+L. Alt+L switches between left panel -> editor windows -> log

It took me a while to understood.
In other words explained:
If you in side panel or bottom search panel,
Ctrl+TAB works there for that Panel-Tabs.
If you in main (document) panel/window,
Ctrl+TAB works there for Document-Tabs.
(BTW: Alt+1, Alt+2,....,Alt+9 works too to switch Tabs)
To switch between Panels press Alt+L
Ah, clear now.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't explain the problem clear enough. Here is a new explanation.
When you set the option "Tab switching" to "last used order", the Ctrl+Tab shortcut is supposed to switch between file tabs in the same way the Alt+Tab shortcut does for windows. That is, in the order you selected each tab.
The bug is that the "used order" is remembered only if you select file tabs by clicking on the actual tabs, but not if you select them by other means, for example:
- By clicking on a file in the project side panel
- By clicking on a file in the "folder explorer" side panel
- By clicking on a file in the "file list" side panel
- By clicking on a file in the "Search in Files Results" bottom panel
If you use any of those 4 methods, the tab switching order is not remembered.
The order is only rememberred when you use the actual tabs to select the active file.
I hope it's clear now.

Ctrl+Tab (or tab) is standard behavior for switching elements in local area of elements.
Modal window has 2 areas - main window and child window area (there are documents). Those areas are independent. It's MS design. They found that MDI window concept isn't ideal and in MS Office they made some hybrid, but not as window control, but used in Office only. And each Office version has own (different) behavior.

Is there really no solution for the problem reported by "Get Free"? It's a really annoying problem. Other editors (e.g. SynWrite or EditPad Pro) do not have this problem. They behave as requested by "Get Free".

I guessed that it was answered already. What exactly is annoying behavior for you?

Let's assume you have set the tab switching order to "last two files", and you have 10 open files. Now you activate file #7, and then you activate file #4 by clicking into the "Files List" side panel. Then you press Ctrl+Tab. Expected behavior: PSPad will activate file #7. Actual behavior: PSPad will activate another file, e.g. file #2.

PSPad uses MDI interface. I can make ctrl+tab usable for files only, but in this case it will prevent you handle pspad with keyboard. Use alt+l to switch between files, log part and panel part.
Current PSPad behavior is standard behavior.
