I have replaced (and checked) all files in the program directory with the files from pspad551b817x64.zip.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the "About..." window in PSPAD shows
5.5.1 (815) 13/10/2024 13:03:38
where it should show (817).
With kind regards,
Henk

Hi,
I'm not sure when this changed but highlighting of matching brackets changed at some point, seems to highlight on bracket and on the character right after the bracket, for example if I have this code:
if function(parameter) then do:
/*some code here*/
end.
if I place the cursor on "(" it highlights the corresponding ")", good, but if I go to the right on "p" it still keeps the brackets highlighted, if I got to the left on "n" it doesn't highlight (good), as a result I cannot see where the cursor is, if it's on the bracket or after the bracket to know where I am and how to edit the code.
Same if I am on ")" it highlights corresponding "(" ok, but if I am on the space right after ")" it keeps highlighting which is not good in my opinion.
Thank you,
Cristian

You are right. The build info in 64b version was wrong. I recompiled it and uploaded again

Any news on the editor engine replacement or the chinese/strange character problem?
The latter is still the most important problem.

Agree, I would also greatly appreciate feedback regarding the chinese character issue.
One thing I noticed is that if an opened file contains a trailing CRLF (0D0A), it is not displayed. We had a similar issue several builds ago but it was fixed already.

Hello,
a) Today, I encountered the mojibake issue (this strange "y") in the top-left corner of PSPad. I don’t recall what I had done before or how long it had been there. It disappeared after restarting PSPad: Screenshot
b) What frustrates me the most these days is the fact that PSPad keeps forgetting its window size repeatedly. Within an hour, I have to correct it at least a dozen times.
I don’t keep the PSPad window maximised. Instead, I place it using Windows Snap Assist so that it initially takes up exactly 50% of the screen width. Then, I scale it to approximately 65% and save the position in PSPad. My taskbar is positioned vertically on the right side of the screen, and PSPad is directly to the left of it. Screenshot
The issue occurs when I minimise PSPad using the Minimise button in the top-right corner. Later, when I bring it back to the foreground by clicking the pinned PSPad icon in the taskbar, it often restores in a maximised state, covering the full screen width instead of keeping its previous size and position. This happens so frequently that it becomes frustrating. Screenshot
Additional observations:
- If I restore PSPad using ALT + Tab, the issue does not seem to occur. This suggests that the problem is related to how the window is restored via the pinned taskbar icon.
- PSPad also forgets its position and size when following these steps:
-- Start PSPad from the pinned icon in the taskbar.
-- Scale and position the window.
-- Save the position in PSPad.
-- Close PSPad using the Close button in the top-right corner.
-- Restart PSPad from the pinned icon in the taskbar.
-- → The window size and position are not retained.
- PSPad is the only program I use that misbehaves like this.
I hope to have all details mentioned. The behaviour is the same in Win 10 as it used to be in Win 7.
c) PSPad still keeps crashing frequently, just as it has been doing for many years. It easily happens more than 10 times a day. Often, the termination window with its buttons appears. I know I should send the email then, but I feel I have already sent enough over the years. It still happens far too often that these emails are returned as 'Mail delivery failed' – just a few days ago, it happened again.
However, in recent versions, PSPad also crashes with a different window – a small one, simply stating that PSPad has crashed.
Friendly greetings
Ravelli
