This version tends to crash more often, sadly on unpredictable actions (I use the 32bit version). Some minutes back I opened a CSS file and wanted to scroll down. I missed to click the scroll bar, so I clicked into the text and moved my mouse down. Then PSPad froze and I had to close it via Task Manager.

Interestingly, after such a crash and restarting PSPad, several program settings changed. e.g. ESC to Exit Program, Scroll past EOL and EOF, Trim Trailing Spaces, Wrap (soft) with Right Edge, Tab With, Autocomplete. There might be more which I have not noticed yet.

In the Toolbar, selected folders and files still have an odd background(framing). You can see it in this upscaled screenshot:

Could you be more specific about the files which are crashing you, please?

I use PSPad for mainly LOG files around 15 MB, XML,INI,VBS,CMD from time to time and it works stable.
For home usage I edit PHP, CSS and XML files and without any crashes so long.

@Vany: I mostly edit files for websites, like PHP, CSS, MD, TXT, LOG.

Yesterday PSD crashed three or four times while I was editing many PHP files. I first search in project files for certain strings, opened some few files containing these strings, edited those files, saved them. And then on closing tabs via middle-mouse-click PSD crashed. Not always of course, maybe 1-2 times on closing ~100 tabs. And again some several settings in preferences had changed due to crashes.

Hello, yes i do use black background like i've always done with PSPad and i hadn't that problem before.
In fact, i have the same settings in 5.0.2 (312) and 5.0.2 (321), and i don't have this behavior in 312 :\
