#1 unicode replacement character

Posted by: DEROUSSEAUX | Date: 2020-07-20 12:24 | IP: IP Logged

Hi,
due to a very regrettable mistake of mine when I changed the format of my text files from ISO-8859-1 to unicode UTF8, all [french] accented characters in the files have been replaced by the unicode replacement character, coded on 3 bytes : 0xEF 0xBF 0xBD.
I believe pspad could prevent from such mistakes and get inspiration from the paragraph entitled « Replacement character » on the page en.wikipedia.org) ?
(That being said, I am satisfied with pspad, and I’ve been using it for quite a long time.)
Thank you.

How did you changed encoding?
How can PSpad recognize, if it's user will or mistake?

Accented chars are encoded in UTF-8 as 2 or 3 bytes.
In case you changed encoding and save your file, you can simple change it back to ISO-8859-1 and save your file again.
