#1 Feature Request: Save Active File Before Compilation

Posted by: Ravelli | Date: 2026-03-04 14:25 | IP: IP Logged

Hello all,

I often have lots of temporary files open, such as text files containing temporary notes, PSPad results from searching project files and results from using the 'Copy' button in the 'Search' window. I often have a couple of these open at once and I don't want them to be saved, since they only contain temporary information.

Currently, the Highlighter Settings feature 'Save All Files Before Compilation' saves all modified files before compilation. However, if I enable this feature, PSPad saves too many unwanted files to its program folder [New1.txt, New2.txt, etc.], resulting in lots of unnecessary files being stored on my hard drive. Also, when other project files have not been saved yet on purpose, PSPad saves them and gives them a new date stamp, which again confuses the versioning of projects.

Ideally, when I compile files, I would like only the current file to be saved before compilation and no others. This would require a new feature: 'Save Active File Before Compilation'.

Alternatively, a selection box could be added:
'Save files before compilation: [none|active|modified|all].

I keep the 'Save all files before compilation' feature off, but then I have to save the active file myself, which I sometimes forget.

What do you think?

Friendly greetings,
Ravelli

I understand and this request has a reason.

I will add an option: save current file before compilation

Hi,

I share Ravelli's experience with temporary files and support his request.

However, my request would be an option like "Ignore buffers that are not from a file".
That would ignore all the "temporary" "files" that arise from copy/paste actions.

Regards,
Torsten

Do you mean new files never saved?

Basically, yes. Every “New” file.
