PSPad 4.6.2 locks up when I hit 2 double quotes in a row

#1 PSPad 4.6.2 locks up when I hit 2 double quotes in a row

Windows 7 Pro with SP1. Updates are supposed to be automatically installed so who knows what update installed recently. I will check.

This is really bizarre. At first PSPad 4.6.1 was locking up on this one Perl source file when I hit 2 double quotes. But PSPad doesn't do it on any other file. PSPad 4.6.2 does the same thing.

Whenever I type 2 double quotes in PSPad, PSPad locks up and uses 25% of the CPU. It never seems to return from this problem. This is my main editor and has been customized over many months so I really don't want a new editor at this time.

* Typing different characters, or typing the same characters in a different place, does not affect PSPad. Only typing 2 double quotes "" does this.
* Typing "" in a new text file in PSPad doesn't hurt it.
* Recent programs that have been installed:
- DBExtra was installed last week about May 18, 2017. And earlier this week I used it, so that may have run stay-resident processes.
- Corsair engine for keyboard in March 2017.

What I've tried:

* Reboot Windows 7. That didn't help.
* Copy source file and edit it.
* Scan PC for viruses. That didn't help.
* Uninstall PSPad 4.6.1, reinstall newest version 4.6.2. That didn't help.
* Reboot Windows again. PSPad still locks up when I type a double quote.
* Quit the Corsair engine for my keyboard. PSPad still locks up when I type 2 double quotes.

* Could there be a setting in PSPad that I could use to fix this?
* Has anyone else had this issue?
* Does PSPad map 2 double quotes to something by default?

Thank you for any help.

I can not reproduce this with pspad 5 227. Tried with text file, php and perl.

Can you please try with this version?

Zip your pspad folder first as backup if you want to go back to your version.

I'll have to look at that later.

Is there a way in PSPad to find or highlight characters with a value > 126? Either in the text editor or hex editor. I wonder if I accidentally put in a control character.

FIXED:

- Used Search, Find with regex to search for [\x7f-\xff] (extended ascii ctrs).
- Found extended ascii ctr, deleted it.
- Changed file to ANSI under Format, Ansi.
- Saved file.
- Quit PSPad.
- Double click on file to edit it.
- Made edit just fine.
