Why are files opening in a narrow window?

#1 Why are files opening in a narrow window?

I have used PSPad for years and it is a great program. However, I am (again) dealing with a minor annoyance and am hoping that you can advise me how to resolve the issue.

When I double click a .txt file, it opens in PSPad. The PSPad program width (according to the ruler in the program) is about 90 characters wide, but the file opens in a window that is only 41 characters wide. Yeah, I can make the window wider, but why is it opening so narrowly?

Isn't enough to maximize child window?

See screen shot here: pairofdocs.net. Maximizing the child window is a bad option because then I cannot have multiple files open at once.
