Register windows7-pro batch files for editing fails

#1 Register windows7-pro batch files for editing fails

Posted by: jack2017 | Date: 2020-01-22 21:06 | IP: IP Logged

I can't seem to get widows7-pro to register .bat files for editing.
Everytime I try it ruins the registry and .bat files cannot run.
I have to go to a backup registry to get things working again.

I'm using 5.0.1 but have just downloaded 5.0.2 to try but I dont see any comments about this.

I have UAC turned off.

If .bat files are registered pspad shows up in the right click menu and will
open them but the batch files are disconnected from cmd.exe so cannot run.

Has anyone else seen this - I cant see any mention of it?

thanks
jack

Hello

PSPad doesn't change any system extensions like EXE, BAT, ...
PSPad uses PPR as PSPad Project extension and on request it can handle TXT files. No other extensions.

Please don't assign files like BAT, EXE to PSPad in program settings / Registered files types. It assign files directly to PSPad and in case of executable files it will break their functionality. It's similar as you will assign them to open in Acrobat Reader.

If you want to edit BAT files, drag / Drop them into PSPad or use right mouse and Edit in PSPad

Thanks for the message but I dont understand.

I'm not trying open projects or do anything other than edit plain text files.
It doesnt register .txt files .bat or many other purely text files.
nor does it change the icon's for the file types.
I have never seen this with pspad before - these are just text files I have no
interest in .exe or other binary files.

I'm just trying to register for editing.

Program settings / register file types assign file to PSPad.
It's the same as you will choose default application for this file type in Windows.
If you dobit with executable files - bat, cmd, exe, it will break ability to run this file.

Again. If you want edit bat or cmd in pspad, right click on this file and choose Edit in PSPad
