Hello
I live in Germany... and I use Windows-10 version 1709.
Since recently PSPad displays the Umlauts strangely. See below.
But other text-editors like Notepad++ and RJ TextEd display normally.
Why?
All three use Format ANSI.
Thank you.

What you're seeing are the OEM characters (code page 850) that have the same byte value as the ANSI umlauts (Windows 1252).
Byte Windows-1252 CP850
F6 ö ÷
FC ü ³
Check your settings if you defined anything about the OEM or DOS character set.

@Steffen
Thank you ... but how/where?
I use a 2 years Dell laptop with a new (free) Windows-10 version 1709.
I don't define OEM or DOS character set.
I use the 3 text-editors but mostly PSPad.
I treat them the same .. but why only PSPad displays the CP850?
Do you know where can I check what ..? Thnks

Hello
I've deinstalled PSPad .. reboot .. installed a new version of PSPad.
That does not change anything.
I think I must "clean" the PC from PSPad .. and then install a virgin PSPad .. but I don't know how.
Thank you.
BTW .. how do you call "the database of a Windows"?

If you're sure you didn't set anything then we should do at least two tests beforehand. That's because automatic code page detection could be in place in other editors.
1) Make sure the ANSI code page is set to 1252 on your computer.
- press [Windows]+[R] buttons
- type CMD and click OK
- type WMIC OS GET CODESET in the black cmd window and press Enter
It should output:
CodeSet
1252
Get back with the information whether or not you get the same output.
2) Make sure your text files have the right encoding.
- use the Windows Editor first (press [Windows]+[R] buttons, type NOTEPAD and click OK)
- type ÄÖÜ (capital letters) in the editor window and choese Datei->Speichern unter...
- Navigate to your Desktop, give it a name, be sure the Encoding is set to ANSI.
- Save the file and close the editor window.
- Right-click on the file and choose PSPad HEX to see the written byte values. It should be C4 D6 DC.
- Open the same file in PSPad text editor mode. You should see ÄÖÜ now.
Again get back with the information whether or not you get the same output.

Hello
I think I know the cause of the problem.
Some weeks ago I must change the format of a text file from ANSI to UTF-16 BE .. big endian.
I used PSPad.
PDF XChangeEditor worked well with the text file in BigEndian.
And then I change the format of PSPad back to ANSI.
But something remains .... since then ... and makes problem ..
Thank you
