#1 How to upload files?

Posted by: Roberto | Date: 2006-12-29 00:02 | IP: IP Logged

I simply can't believe I can't upload files to the FTP from project. Only files that can be uploaded are files that can be opened like HTML files. Others: images, swfs, folders, etc... no way. How hard would be to do that? What is the purpose of the projects then? You create them then you use some other FTP program to upload it to the server. No sense to me.

Dear Roberto,
I feel your pain i.e., trying to upload an image file in pspad...how ridiculus it is to download another ftp based program to upload an image....ridiculus!

Hi guys,

PSPad is an text editor.
Projects are for text based files only.
That PSPad has an FTP client is an
accommodation from the author of PSPad, Jan.
This is for text files only!
You should be thankful that you have this.

For your other files you can get one
of that freeware FTP clients from
e.g. snapfiles.com or nonags.com

What's next what you want?
"I have an project. PSPad show me the files, but why
has PSPad no sync functions to synchronize with my backup?"
or
"I have images in my project.
Why can't i edit them in PSPad? Bad thing!"

So see: PSPad is an text editor for coders. And a really good one.
For sync issues there are good synchronizing apps.
For image there are plenty good graphics editors.
And for FTP there are apps made for this purpose only.
Perhaps you should ask an FTP client coder
if he can add text editing functions in his product for you?

So if you are an coder you should know
what app is for what purpose grinning smiley

For file handling including FTP and Synchronizing you can take
an look at Total Commander over at www.Ghisler.com. Only 28 €.

For small but good and cheap graphic editor take a look at
www.pl32.com for PhotoLine32 or at
www.PhotoFiltre.com for freeware PhotoFiltre.

All are small and stand alone as PSPad is, less Registry access.

Ah, and an good an healthy 2007 for you all. winking smiley

I'm with you also Roberto. Even though PSPad is by far the best text editor that I have tried recently, the lack of good up and down FTP capability means that I seldom take the time to use it.

I'm interested in using PSPad to edit files on mulitple servers simultaneously. After finished editing, don't we all download all of our files for backups? Or if we edit locally first, don't we upload batches of files?

Great product and like you I was very excited when I tried it out. But I just don't have time to switch products to manage the files that I have edited.

I'll keep checking back, hoping to find robust FTP capability has been added.

As stated above PSPad is a text editor with integrated FTP not an FTP client with integrated text editing. You should always use tools made for the job at hand. I mean PSPad has a HTML viewer built in but you're not going to start using it to surf the net now are you? You can actually upload any file via FTP using PSPad. If you open a picture in PSPad you will get the hex view of it but you can still save it to FTP and it will be uploaded as a binary.

Are you guys saying that I can't upload compiled executables, WAR or JAR files - just the source code for them?

That does sound a little silly.

It makes it real hard to use this in a mixed network environment where FTP is the only common way of moving files between windows and Unix flavored servers.

Well, as far as i know PSPad is a programmers editor, not a ftp client.
I suppose i am getting old if i only want tools for a specific job instead of one tool for everyting smiling smiley

I'm with Roberto too. I find very funny open ws_ftp simply to upload an image.

What i'm looking for is not an img editor but simply a drag'n'drop feature for files. I don't think it will take days of development.
I think PsPad is one of the bests editor around. With few mods it can be THE editor.
It wouldn't be a pity if a web programmer use another editor just for a lack of one simply feature?

I understand carbonize point of view but a ftp program that simply edits files exists IMHO. So we want just upload ALL our files! winking smiley

If i dare to give my opinion is to support this marvelous tool that i advise to all my friends.

Ciao,
Davide

Ouch...

Well, with that said. I'm dropping PSPad because it is too simple. I need to be able to upload files and navigate (easily) the directory structure of my site(s).

For what it is... PSPad is a GREAT free program.
