Hello Jan,
Could you tell me why PSPad is so slow to close big files about 50 Mo like registry dump after a comparison?
It only takes two or three seconds to open my two big files => very good
Then, I compare my two files it takes about 50 seconds (pretty good)
Now, I close the comparison result window and PSPad takes about 30 seconds to close the window => it's really slow
And PSPad takes the same time for the two previously opened files.
Why?
Could you optimized that?
Thanks and have a nice day.

Hello Jan,
Here are some adding from my previous post concerning the slowness of PSPad to clse big file after a comparison
PSPad Memory Usage:
without file => Working Size = 10 Mo, Virtual Size = 60 Mo
with 50 Mo file => Working Size = 90 Mo, Virtual Size = 203 Mo
with two 50 Mo file => Working Size = 170 Mo, Virtual Size = 340 Mo
after having compare the two big file:
Working Size = 100 Mo, Virtual Size = 1200 Mo
Now if I close all three windows (about 30 seconds to close each window), PSPad have the following Memory Usage
Working Size = 5 Mo, Virtual Size = 1200 Mo
Why?
I have done a test with WinMerge (which also compare two files) and it only takes about 200 Mo in Working Size and 354 Mo in Virtual Size
I am sure you could optimized PSPad

My configuration: Windows XP, SP2

Without any file about 10 MB memory and 5MB swap
> with 50 Mo file => Working Size = 90 Mo, Virtual Size = 203 Mo
with my about 53MB exported registr.reg:
80 MB memory, 80 MB virtual
> with two 50 Mo file => Working Size = 170 Mo, Virtual Size =
> 340 Mo
with 2 same registry exports:
memory 159 MB, virtual 158 MB - its coresponds to previous values
> after having compare the two big file:
> Working Size = 100 Mo, Virtual Size = 1200 Mo
after compare this 2 files:
92MB memory, 453 MB virtual - please note that compare mean next 2 copies = 4x 50MB file x 2 bytes, because stored in memory as unicode

After I close the text compare window and one registry file, I got 5MB memory and 82 MB virtual.

WinMerge works in unicode ?

I am sure you could find problem in your OS settings or some program - antivirus e.t.c.

Hi Jan,
OK, I totally agree with you about PSPad memory usage.
In fact, I have done my tests with Process Explorer and it seems not to display the same values as Windows Tasks Manager.
But, on two powerful and completely different computers (with a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, 512 Mo RAM and 1 Go RAM) PSPad takes about 30 seconds to close a 50 Mo file and 45 seconds to close a 85 Mo file after having done a files comparison.
Why?
Do you have that problem?
Thanks and have a nice day.

I don't know in this time, why closing big file takes so long. On my comt it was up to 10s (I have 512 MB RAM), but its so tong too.
There must be some bad memory handling - long time takes a memory dealocating

There are some problems with line operations that appear unregular:
- I configured delete line on Shift+Del
- sometimes deleting empty line is not possible pressing Shift+Del
- Sometimes when copy text to clipboard, selecting some lines, then pressing Shift+Del for delete the lines, then press Ctrl+V for paste did not paste the clip; it pasting an empty line

Shift+Del is assigned to the CUT command (Edit part). Did you remove it out from there ?

Thanx, my mistake.
