#1 open locked file as read-only

Posted by: Tsjoecha | Date: 2015-08-28 07:45 | IP: IP Logged

Hello,

I love pspad, but sometimes I want to consult a locked file - for example a busy logfile from an active process. I never intend to change its data, but want to be able to search for error messages.

As a workaround, I make a copy of the given file, and open that instance. After consultation, I delete the copy again.

Is there a possibility to open locked files in pspad?

OS : win7 64bit. Latest version of pspad. (I think it used to work with some ancient version, but can't test that anymore)

Thx!

If file is locked (open exclusive) with any proces, other proces can't read it.

Tsjoecha:
a busy logfile from an active process.

You can use built-in viewer from FAR Manager (F3).

I need any example to simulate this behavior. Are you possible to tell me how to get any of your locked file? E.g. some system log...

I have the issue only with openedge logic, which I use all day long.

In fact, I make a stream to which I write data, and which I follow up with cygwin tail -f command. Sometimes though, I have to scroll back to check some "ancient" data.

To make some tests I need any such locked file. So I need step by step how to create such locked file.

As I told, I use openedge, and you'll need a licence to be able to do exactly what I do.

On msdn however, I found this article. I guess it will do a similar thing, as it works with streams as well.

I am using streams to open files. I don't do nothing exclusive, cause I need to read content of the file only.

This is reason, why I need anything (there is not necessary to have OpenEdge) what PSpad isn't able to open but others do.
