To me all three states are sufficient. I was wondering why they not should be sufficient.

Yes, but I also did a test with some windows theme options turned off. And it also was ok. Don't know why the active tab is white here.

Yes, this is a new option from 4.6.0
Before it looks as my picture. And you are able to disable current tab highlighting by special settings switch.
