highlighting strings spanning multiple lines

#1 highlighting strings spanning multiple lines

Posted by: dhohmann | Date: 2015-02-02 10:44 | IP: IP Logged

Hello Jan,

I worked on some PHP-files recently and to my surprise I noticed, that strings spanning multiple lines were nicely highlighted!

Is it possible to implement this behavior in user highlighter settings?

Greetings,
Dirk

Hello, it's hard to implement it generally. Each language can have it's own rules.

Hello Jan,

that's right, but I thought of some simple checkable option to let the user decide if highlighting a string should end at the end of the line or if highlighting should span from quote to quote.
I would expect it to work like comments (eg. {...}).

Greetings,
Dirk

Each language has own rules - some hasmultiline commands, some must have special char on the end of the line, e.t.c.

Look at multiline comments - how many comments is there and each comment has own rules
