In one installation of PSPad new files have a suggested name based on the first line of text. In another installation, new files default to names like "New1.txt".
How do I trigger the first-line autonaming feature? TIA.

There is no such option.
Do you open same file and do you use same PSPad version?
PSPad takes first line and if it is useable as file name, it use it.
But only for TXT file - it means files without highlighter. If you assign TXT extension to any highlighter, it wont work.

Nope, that wasn't it. I also removed "txt" from the registered file types; no effect.
Thanks for the speedy reply, though.

Only the first line is taken as file name
Please check this:
create new TEXT file inside PSPad
write some text on the first line and call Save action.
For me PSPad offer first line as filename

Yes, that's what I was doing.
I create a new text file.
I type "Bob".
I hit Ctrl+S.
On my tower: The Save dialog comes up with a suggested name of "Bob.txt".
On my laptop: The Save dialog comes up with a suggested name of "File1.txt".

Do you use same PSPad version on both computers?
You can transfer settings from one to another. Open Program settings / Backup, click on path in bottom part of form and copy PSPad.ini from tower to your laptop.
