#1 a way to consider first column number 0 instead of 1 ?

At present, when the cursor stays at ruler position n, the counter in status bar shows n+1. Thus if I want to tab -> tab -> tab to start writing at column 40, I have to consider column 41 in the status bar. Or, if I am at column 2 the status bar says 3, if I position the cursor at exact number 10 under the upper ruler the status bar says 11, etc.

Is there a way for the column number in status bar to start from 0 instead of 1, same as the numbering in the upper ruler ?

Thank you,
Cristi
