#1 Highlighting URLs in XML files

Posted by: abhibare | Date: 2012-11-27 19:59 | IP: IP Logged

Hi all,

I feel I am missing something basic.
I have bunch of XML files with "ftp://" URLs in them. When I open in pspad, they don't get highlighted for clicking.

There is a setting "Highlight URL address if no highlighter". If I turn that on, URLs only in .txt files get highlighted.

So I turned off highlighter for XML in "Highlighters Settings". But nothing happens. XMLs are still syntax highlighted and no URLs highlighted.

In short I need both - XML highlighting and URL highlighting in the XML.

Can you please help? PSPAD ver. 4.5.6 (2427) on Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit.

Thanks!

You don't need turn off highlighter, but you need to switch off highlighting.
From the menu view switch off "Syntax" or use toolbar button.
When syntax highlighting is off, you will see active URL links.

Another possibility in all case is select URL and use right mouse (context menu) and Open selected file in default application.

Thanks for your response.

First option worked fine. I set a keyboard shortcut to turn highlighter on/off faster.

Second option does not work. My URLs are "ftp://" and for some reason, when I select the ftp:// URL and open in default application (Chrome), it opens as "ftp//" instead of "ftp://". Not sure if this is a problem in pspad or Chrome/Windows is not interpreting it right. But this would have been a faster option than first option.

I am still not sure why pspad doesn't allow both syntax highlighting and URL highlighting automatically at the same time. But that is a different topic.

Thanks!
