#1 BUG: Smart tab switching doesn't work after opening page preview (F10)

Posted by: Get Free | Date: 2011-03-16 03:40 | IP: IP Logged

This bug is very simple to reproduce:

1. Set PSPad to use smart tab switching
2. Open several files so you have more than one tab
3. Press F10 to open the "HTML page preview" window
4. Close the "html page preview" window
5. Press Ctrl+Tab repeatedly to switch between tabs

The result in step 5 is that tabs switch in a chaotic order.

I'd like PSPad developers to confirm whether this problem is present or not, please, so I can be sure it's not just me.

"Smart tab switching" you call which option of
Settings > Program (Part 1) > Tab Switching: [???]
"Last used order" or "Last two files"?

"Last two files" seems to me as if it behaves the same as "Standard" option and (personally) "Last used order" was equivalent of 'chaotic' for me all the time, so I cannot tell any difference.

I'm having a similar experience.

For me "Standard" switches forward/backward through tabs (CTRL-TAB = fwd, SHIFT+CTRL+TAB = bwd).

"Last two files" works for the first two uses, but then degrades into "Standard" unless I (at minimum) mouse click somewhere in the file between each CTRL+TAB use. This frustrating when needing to switch repeatedly between two files, but I suppose using vertical- or horizontal-split in the context menu on a tab is a partial solution.

"Last used order" doesn't work at all for me -- totally chaotic sad smiley

Both "Last used order" and "Last two files" modes actually work if you never open the "html page preview" window.
From the moment you open that window, any of those two modes (whichever you selected) stop working properly.

On my end, I never use HTML preview and neither "Last used order" nor "Last two files" has ever worked for me (on Win XP or W7/64-bit) -- they misfire as described in my prior post.

"Last used order" mode is supposed to mimic MS Windows' Alt+Tab.
Try this: open a fresh PSPad window, then open several files so you have many tabs open. Now compare the behavior of PSPad's Ctrl+Tab with the behavior of Windows' Alt+Tab. They behave the same way.

Now in PSPad open and close the "html preview window" and then use Ctrl+Tab again. The behavior changes.

Are you able to reproduce that?
I'm using version 4.5.4 (2356).

Do you select tabs by clicking on them or some other way?
As far as I've seen, "Last used order" mode works only if you select tabs with your mouse. If you use a different method (like clicking on the file list left panel) then "Last used order" mode doesn't work.

Mouse-click on a tab, then another tab, then use CTRL-TAB to switch between them -- if I do not Mouse-click within each window after a CTRL-TAB, the tab switching degrades from "Last two files" to "Standard":

So, using "Last two files", I get this behavior:

Mouse click tab 1
Mouse click tab 2
CTRL-TAB switches back to tab 1 (as expected)
CTRL-TAB again switches to tab 2 (as expected)
CTRL-TAB a third time moves to the tab on the right on tab 2, not back to tab 1

However, if I mouse click within a tab after each CTRL-TAB (say, position the cursor and/or then type), "Last two files" works as expected.
