Smart file switching problem

#1 Smart file switching problem

On newest version 4.5.2 (2241), the feature called "Smart file switching" does not have the same behaviour as previous versions.

Ctrl+Tab should always switch to the last tab (assuming smart file switching is enabled).
That is the correct behavior, the same as the Windows key Alt+Tab has.

Pressing Alt+Tab in Windows, takes you to the last application you were. Pressing Alt+Tab again, takes you to the one you were initialy.
But, if you hold down Alt and then press Tab several times, you will pass from one application to another in mouse clicking order.

That is the same behavior that Ctrl+Tab has in previous versions of PSPad.

But in the last version that behabior is not the same. It is rather erratic. Sometimes it behaves correctly, but sometimes dont.
You cannot be sure to use Ctrl+Tab to switch to the last Tab you were and expecting to get back pressing Ctrl+Tab again.

It is really annoying. I always need to switch back and forth between two files.
On previous versions I could do that flawlessly. But now I can't. :(

How smart file switch works now:

Lets open several editor windows.
Click with mouse on the 3 and 5
If you will press Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Tab, PSPad will switch 3th and 5th window. I hope it's OK.

Now, 3th window is selected. I press Ctrl, keep it pressed down and will pres TAB key. I will cycle and stop on the 2nd window.

Next Ctrl+Tab switch to 3th window - it's window on what I start cycle with Ctrl pressed.

I think it's correct behaviour.

when i open 7 new windows, and do exactly what you said, it seems there's no problem..

but after some time something goes wrong, next time it happens for me, i will write down step-by-step what happens...

an other strange thing sometimes happens is that the cursor get's stuck somewhere.. the problem then is: i am on line 5:32 of a document, i click to line 8:10 and start typing. the cursor doesn't show up at line 8:10, but keeps blinking at line 5:32. (text just inserts in line 8:10 as normal) this also happens randomly.

but i probably should report this in another thread smiling smiley

I have problems here too. The order in which the files are selected makes no sense to me. I open the editor with an existing project (6 files open). File 3 is selected. I select the last one (6) with the tab and then the one before it (5). When I press now CTRL-TAB file 3 is selected again. I press CTRL-TAB a second time. Now file 4 is selected. I simply cannot use this feature and I would be happy if at least there were a hotkey to skip from file to file, example given, CTRL-PAGEDOWN selects the file to the right, CTRL-PAGEUP selects the file to the left.

Hi,

I also think this ctrl+tab issue is quite annoying.

Here is the way I can reproduce the problem in version 4.5.2 (2241)

I have created 3 empty files:
file1.txt
file2.txt
file3.txt

1. From the Windows Explorer I select all of them and right-click to get the context menu to choose "PSPad" option (PSPad was close before)

2. My active tab is "file3.txt"

3. I press and release Ctrl-tab once and it goes to "file1.txt"

4. I press and release Ctrl-tab again and it should go back to "file3.txt" but instead goes to "file2.txt"!!!???

Hope this helps
Juan

I reported this problem as early as 2007. Back then though, I didn't know the cause was the "HTML page preview" window (See here forum.pspad.com).
