Could not find the answer...
There is the option to show/hide special characters in the PSPad. But they are the same as usual characters and symbols. Is there a way to set a different color for special characters?

Try to set color for whitespace in highlighter settings / Colors
If you will set color in one highlighter and dblclick it, it will set it in all highlighters for same name attribute

How can I set these settings for TXT file type or *.*?

In case you need to change it, you must create empty use highlighter
But it isn't possible to do for *.*
I can add possibility of this setting to any next build

if you want to use highlighter for all files, use *. mask
